Okay ladies. I want to know two things.
1. What's your favorite sports bra? I mean FAVORITE FAVORITE.
2. What's your current favorite super fantastic hair product?
I'll go first.
1. So, it's time to purchase a few new sports bras, and my favorite sports bra just so happens to be ONE THAT HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED. Unfortunately, my fave sports bra is no more. Let's put it this way - I'm not a gal that can go without a really supportive, FANTASTIC sports bra. And I've had two kids. I've been buying and wearing the same Champion (I think) model for years and I can't find it anywhere. Help!
2. I am OBSESSED with finding a hair/styling product to make my hair shiny. I have a very intricate hair styling process which currently involves mixing a few pumps of Bumble & Bumble Thickening Spray and a few pumps of Kerastase serum into my towel-dried hair. Then, I blow dry my hair in sections and flat iron the front if necessary. Let's just say that it's usually necessary. Once its dry, I run a tiny bit of Bumble & Bumble Brilliantine through it to make it shiny. I'd like a miracle product to do everything - make it shiny, glossy and also have a little holding power.
Ideas?

Sunday night meme
I swear I've done this one before but it's a good one, and hey, it's Sunday night, so why not? Stolen from my girl Nat.
1. What kind of SOAP is in your bathtub right now? Some sort of shower gel that I bought at Target simply because it smelled nice.
2. Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator? Yes, a little.
3. What would you change about your living room? Nothing.
4. Are the dishes in your dishwasher clean or dirty? It's full and running. So, dirty in the process of getting clean.
5. What is in your fridge? Whole milk, lactose-free skim milk, soy milk, blueberries, strawberries, cherry tomatoes, romaine lettuce, yogurt, various condiments, crystal light, coke zero, an open bottle of chardonnay, cilantro...that's about all I can remember. Grocery shopping tomorrow, so it's pretty empty.
6. White or wheat bread? 12-grain.
7. What is on top of your refrigerator? Nothing, it's pretty much built in.
8. What color or design is on your shower curtain? Actually, we don't have shower curtains. Just doors on all the showers.
9. How many plants are in your home? 8 or so.
10. Is your bed made right now? Yes.
11. Comet or Soft Scrub? Hmm, soft scrub I think.
12. Is your closet organized? Somewhat. MY closet is. My husband's, not so much.
13. Can you describe your flashlight? Yellow.
14. Do you drink out of glass or plastic most of the time at home? Both.
15. Do you have iced tea made in a pitcher right now? No, just crystal light.
16. If you have a garage, is it cluttered? No! It's SO CLEAN! My mom came over yesterday and we went to town on it. Seriously, it's a palace right now.
17. Curtains or blinds? A mix of both. Wooden blinds upstairs, some rooms have valances and/or sheers as well, downstairs we have drapes, sheers and roman shades.
18. How many pillows do you sleep with? I think there are 8 on the bed but I sleep with two.
19. Do you sleep with any lights on at night? No. Pitch dark.
20. How often do you vacuum? Every damn day.
21. Standard toothbrush or electric? Standard.
22. What color is your toothbrush? Pink.
23. Do you have a welcome mat on your front porch? No, not right now - I am searching for one that I love. Our house number is also bricked into the top step so I kind of hate covering it up with a mat.
24. What is in your oven right now? Nada.
25. Is there anything under your bed? Nada.
26. Chore you hate doing the most? Laundry. I hate everything about it. Folding it and putting it away in particular.
27. What retro items are in your home? Some furniture.
28. Do you have a separate room that you use as an office? That *I* use? No. My husband does, though.
29. How many mirrors are in your home? I think 6.
30. Do you have any hidden emergency money around your home? I wish! We do have a bunch of change jars, though.
31. What color are your walls? All different. Some white, one khaki, one peachy-yellow, two light blue, one light green...kind of neutral but nice.
32. Do you keep any kind of protection weapons in your home? Yeah, my two fists.
33. What does your home smell like right now? I've had all of the windows open all day so it smells pretty nice.
34. Favorite candle scent? I love Baies by Diptyque but more often than not, I'm burning Sun and Sand and Fresh Cut Grass, both by Yankee Candle.
35. What kind of pickles (if any) are in your refrigerator right now? Ooh, I love pickles. But right now we just have the sliced ones for sandwiches.
36. What color is your favorite Bible? I don't have a particular favorite.
37. Ever been on your roof? Oh hell no.
38. Do you own a stereo? Yes.
39. How many TVs do you have? Five! Isn't that ridiculous? Three came with the house, one we got free with a furniture purchase and one we got for Christmas from my parents. I have to admit that I love having a TV in my kitchen.
40. How many house phones? Two.
41. Do you have a housekeeper? Oh hell yes.
42. What style do you decorate in? Our house is a nice colonial and I guess I'd say I decorate in a colonial style. Classic. Timeless - but I love adding punches of color.
43. Do you like solid colors in furniture or prints? I think I like solid colors better, and we have mostly solid colors, but I am a sucker for an old lady floral chair or chaise!
44. Is there a smoke detector in your home? Yes, all over the place.
45. In case of fire, what are the items in your house which you’d grab if you only could make one quick trip? Despite the obvious (husband and kids) I'd try to grab my purse and laptop. None of the "things" are irreplaceable.

The latest
Well friends, it's the last day of June and it's 63 degrees here in Metrowest. SIXTY THREE DEGREES. No wonder my baby is sick. She's sporting a low-grade fever that very well might just be related to teething, but it's just so cold, damp and gross that I would be that germs are just festering.
Now there's an appetizing thought, yes?
Moving right along. I am still holding out hope that July, August and September will be our true summer. Not that I'm a big fan of heat and icky humidity, but for God sake, I'd just like to take my kids to the town pool. And the beach!
Besides complaining about the weather, we've been pretty busy. Weekends just seem to fly by way too fast when we have plans. Plans, on top of trying to fit in chores, errands, workouts and the occasional date night, and I could use about a week just to catch up on everything. As we speak, I have three good loads of laundry that need folding. Luckily Claire is napping and Charlotte is at "camp" - which is really just summer school so she continues to get her services year-round. Anyway, the bottom line is that life is great but hectic.
Let's see. What else. Did I mention that I've been working out? I've decided that a year after giving birth is long enough to sit around and I've committed to every day workouts. Well, 6 days a week. I firmly believe that a rest day is essential to give your body a break. I know I mentioned that my hip has been killing me, so I went and got a massage last night at Inman Oasis in Cambridge. OH MY GOD, I feel like a million bucks. Truly, it is miraculous how good I feel after a massage. I've decided to try to get one once a month to keep things copacetic. I am also trying - really trying - to fit in a yoga class once a week to keep my hip stretched out. Any other suggestions would be most certainly welcome.
Another thing we are trying to do around here is to get more sleep. Mr. P and I are notorious for staying up way too late, collapsing into bed at midnight and feeling SURPRISED in the morning when the girls get up at 6:30am that we don't feel refreshed and well-rested. So, we have vowed to try (again with the try!) to be IN BED at 10pm. We can read if we want, maybe watch the news - but we will be IN THE BED at 10pm and lights out at 10:30. I will definitely keep you posted on how that goes. When I actually DO that, I can get up at 6 before the girls, get showered and/or dressed, and feel more organized before the day begins. When I roll out of bed when they do, I usually feel like I'm trying to catch up all day long.
So, I'm going out this afternoon with the gals to buy Mr. P a bedside lamp to match mine and we'll see how it goes.
I think the last newsworthy fact is that I folded up the pack and play for what could conceivably be the last time ever and I felt...like I needed a hug.
That's it from here. What's new with you?

Lord help us
You know it's time for an outing when you look into the playroom and your daughters are running around in circles with clean diapers on their heads and the older one is yelling "WE GOT HATS!"
I think the weather is getting to the little ones, too.
Anyone wanna come over for a playdate? WE GOT HATS!

STOP THE INSANITY
All week, huh? Well, Mother Nature, YOU TELL ME. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH MY KIDS ALL FREAKING WEEK?
You can leave a comment. That's fine.
(5 day forecast image courtesy of The Boston Channel/5.)
Catching up
Before I even start this post, I just have to tell you guys that my HIP is KILLING ME. KILLING MEEEEE. I have been working out a lot lately and the "place where I work out" (okay, okay...jazzercise, fine, okay?) just got a new floor. While I think the floor is better than it was, my right hip is causing me chronic, all day long I want to stab myself, pain.
Time for some advil. What's up, ibuprofen addict? In reality I think I need a. a massage and b. an appointment with a sports medicine doctor. I went to see an orthopedist when I was pregnant with Claire when my hip was killing me and he helpfully said "Losing weight will help." WELL NO KIDDING SIR, but unfortunately weight loss is contraindicated for pregnancy so how about giving me some news I can use already? Stretching helps and of course, weight loss WILL help but for now I am dying.
(I am also a touch melodramatic.)
Anyway. Now that I've thoroughly complained, let's move on. To complaining about the weather. I just finished blowing out my hair and all I could think about was what a complete and total waste of time, energy and product it is. The weather on Saturday was GORGEOUS, though and after I got home from working out, the 4 of us went over to the town Recreation office to have our ID pictures taken for the town pool (which given the weather was probably an exercise in futility but I digress...) and then we went across the street to the town farm's Strawberry Festival where the girls got filthy climbing on bales of hay, I stuck out like a sore thumb and Mr. P got squirrely given the sea of tie-dye.
Hippies make him nervous, what can I say?
I gave Mr. P the afternoon off and dragged the girls to LL Bean to pick up their Fathers' Day gift to their dad. We got Mr. P a monogrammed Boat & Tote because lately when we've been going to the Cape he has been bringing a giant suitcase which is, you know, ridiculous. So we got him a nice tote for jaunts to the Cape and I filled it with a bunch of polo shirts, button down oxfords and khakis and a new pair of leather flip flops. He was psyched.
We also went into the city for Date Night and had a yummy dinner and partook of some MBTA riding action. When you are paying your sitter 80 bucks or so, you park cheap and take the T, yes? Anyway, it was lovely out and we had so much fun. I went into the Vineyard Vines store at the Prudential and bought a dress that I ultimately do not like, so back it goes. I have my eye on a tunic or else a polo shirt or two. We shall see.
Yesterday we had a really nice Fathers' Day - we went to my parents' house for dinner and just had a very relaxing day. Today after dropping off Charlotte at school, Claire and I journeyed over to "the gym" (FINE, JAZZERCISE) so I could work out and so Claire could play with the babies in the babysitting room. Mission accomplished, we came home and now she's napping and I did some housework and inhaled a bowl of cheerios.
When she wakes up, we're off to pick up her sister at school and hit the grocery store. I'm trying a new recipe tonight for a cashew-pork stir fry that I found in the America's Test Kitchen cookbook. I'll let you know how it goes.

Pathological liar or charming imagination? You make the call.
Today, I received this note from my daughter's teacher, in her backpack:
Hi Erin,
Today at lunch, Charlotte told us that she, Daddy, Mommy, Claire Bear and your kitty cat went sailing yesterday afternoon. She said that you have a new pink sail on the boat and that she got to pull the ropes and raise the sail. How fun!
P.S. Could you send in some more diapers? Thanks!
Please note: We have neither a cat nor a sailboat.
Please also note: Yes, diapers. Potty training is a no-go. I'm not going to have this fight. She'll decide to use the potty eventually and until then, I don't care. Incidentally, I ran into one of the special ed directors and as we were chatting, I asked when I'd really have to push the issue and have her trained. Bless this lady's heart, she said "Erin, some kids are NEVER trained. Charlotte will be, when she's ready. We know this and we will NEVER force the issue."
I can get behind that line of thinking!

Claire's stats
Not that anyone cares, but for my own record-keeping. Claire went to the pediatrician today for her 12 month well-baby check up. By the numbers:
weight: 21.8/40th percentile
height: 30 inches/70th percentile
head circ: 65th percentile
She's been walking since 9 months, she waves hi and bye, babbles all day long, says "dada" and "ball" (no mama, of course), loves to eat, has ditched all but the bedtime bottle, "reads" books, climbs stairs, and bit her sister so hard yesterday it left a mark.
I am sincerely hoping she's teething and not the kid who bites. You know. That Kid.
Anyway, I haven't written much about Claire lately but she is awesome.

Catching up
Well hello! My computer and I are reunited after a brief fling at the Apple store (the laptop, not me). Claire's napping, Charlotte's at school, the house is clean so why not post?
Why not indeed. So here we go. I am such a sporadic blogger these days that I have no idea where I've even left off. In recent days, I've fired our housekeepers, hired new ones, finally hung photos and art work in our living room and play room, took Claire to the pediatrician for her one-year check up, spent way too much money at the grocery store (story of my life) and contemplated getting hair extensions.
Obviously I'm not getting extensions but my hair is growing so sloooooowly.
Let's go back to the hanging of the photos and art work, shall we? Ever since we moved into our house, almost a year and a half ago, I've been collecting photos, art, prints from a variety of places - and deciding what I'd like to put up. I finally got tired of looking at blank walls, so I gathered up what I wanted to put up right now and went to the professional framing place in our town center. The gentleman was lovely - friendly - personable. Really, really lovely. And we talked and discussed matting and frames and what kind of glass I wanted, and what the light is like in each room. All told, I had about 10 pieces that I wanted matted and framed. And then he wrote up a quote.
For twelve hundred dollars. TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS.
I thanked him for his time, left two large and unusually sized pieces for framing, picked up the rest of my pictures and RAN. I ran all the way to A.C. Moore and bought mats and frames and saved myself approximately ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. Maybe more.
Would the professional job have looked better? Maybe. Of course, yes. But let's be honest, I am not running an art gallery here and my matting and framing job looks perfectly fine. But jesus! Maybe I am living in the dark ages here but I just couldn't believe what it was going to cost to frame everything - and I have AT LEAST ten more pieces to frame and hang.
Moving on...my in-laws are coming into town tonight and spending the night with us, and then my husband's sister and her husband are staying with us all weekend. It's college reunion time for both my MIL and SIL, so we are hosting them and doing some fun things like a parade and picnic on Sunday.
More pressing: I need to figure out what to make for dinner tonight for my in-laws. After I pick up Charlotte at school we are off to the grocery store (and um...the wine store) so hopefully I figure it out before then.
What are you all up to, friends?

Mommies Who Shop
Oh boy. Two weeks without a single, solitary post and here I am. Same old story, you know...too busy actually living life to write about it, and over the weekend, my power cord to my laptop died AGAIN, yes, for the third time. So I am in my husband's office, using his PC while I can. I'm here for a good reason, though, and that is to tell you about a really awesome thing going on next week that you should TOTALLY know about and MOST DEFINITELY attend if you are in the Boston area.
It's called "Mommies Who Shop" - here's the official run-down:

Over 30 of the hottest up and coming designers offering unique indulgences and modern essentials for moms and tots of all ages - all at special event pricing! Join us for complimentary refreshments, wine bar, goodie bags, our luxury Spa Lounge and more!
June 10th, 2009 from 6-10pm
Regis College, 235 Wellesley Street, Weston, MA
For more info, including how to purchase tickets, please visit, Mommies Who Shop
Now, you're probably thinking, what the H is this all about? Well, I'll tell you. This absolutely lovely mama, Ann, is the brains behind Mommies Who Shop. We talked on the phone last week for almost an hour as she described the event. It's basically one-stop shopping for women (moms and NOT MOMS) consisting of toys, books, gear, clothing - adorable stuff for kids and grown up ladies.
And um, there's a COMPLIMENTARY WINE BAR. Hello, drinking wine for free and shopping? YES PLEASE. I know I'm going, because it is basically in my back yard. Seriously, I can roll off the couch and to this event.
Here's the deal: I am giving away two pairs of tickets. FOR FREE. If you want to win a pair, all you have to do is this:
a. Comment telling me WHY you should win.
b. That's it.
You guys - I am not fooling around with this "follow my blog, follow me on twitter, follow me like the freaking pied piper" BS. Just comment! Tell me why you should win a pair of FREE TICKETS to this super fun event and then - we can totally meet up and go together!
Or you know...I can leave the tickets for you at the door (ha!)
So, if you want to read more about this event, go to their website: Mommies Who Shop. And comment away!
